The solution: Eat HIGH VOLUME foods.
These are foods that have a lot of size for a small number of calories. Typically they will be very micronutrient dense foods. So it’s a win-win situation.
Examples of some high volume foods include ALL vegetables, spaghetti squash, fruits, and low-fat proteins. These foods will keep you full and satisfied when you are in a calorie deficit.
I’ve been dieting for my upcoming competition for 5 months now and can count on 1 hand the times I have been ‘hangry’ (typically because I didn’t plan well). But overall, it hasn’t been a brutal process and I’ve now lost 23 lbs and 6 inches off just my waist.
One of my #diethacks in that on the daily, I have #BAS (big a** salad for those that don’t know the acronym). Pictured here is what I’m in to lately (swipe right for ingredients and macros to this salad). I paired this BAS with 4 oz of lemon pepper haddock that I cooked last night for dinner in the air fryer. Easy peasy.
However, many women that come to me complain that they get bored with diet foods, especially when it comes to veggies and lean proteins. One of my responses to that is to get more creative in the kitchen.
There are so many ways to change up how you prepare and flavor your foods that there’s so reason to get bored.
Put some effort into your meals and I promise you will love your food!
For example, let’s look at a bunch of ways to eat broccoli.
1. Raw (add hummus, guacamole or a low cal Bolthouse dressing)
2. Steamed with salt and pepper
3. Roasted with olive oil, salt and pepper (or with a variety of other seasonings)
4. Riced broccoli as a replacement for rice in a stir fry
5. Shaved as a salad topper for some crunch
6. Broccoli pizza (yes seriously – YouTube it)
Now you can eat broccoli 6 days out of the week and NOT BE BORED!
Finally, in this video I compared to different foods. They have the same volume, but totally different macros and calories. Click the photo below to watch the video!
